North Passage is bustling with new activities thanks to Commodore (and Captain) John Buckman’s creation of the North Passage Yacht Club. Officers include Vice Commodore Henri Desplaines, Rear Commodore John Melson, Secretary/Treasurer Gail Nicolaisen, Liaison Officer Mike Smith, Fleet Captains Nick Buckman, Allan Krul and Dan Wallace, Director Joe Migliorno, Historian Rick Bennette, and WebMaster Tony Yannuzzi. (http://www.northpassageyachtclub.com)

The 247 Yacht Club members are enjoying monthly dinner meetings (thanks to Linda Smith and Yachan) with guest speakers such as Artist Carey Chen, Brian Latell, ex CIA, sharing Castro’s Secrets, and Weatherman and Member Steve Weagle teaching us about Hurricanes. Each meeting concludes with an exhilarating raffle of fabulous trips and prizes contributed by our very generous sponsors.

In addition to all the partying, the NPYC has undertaken more serious missions. Many members participated in the CPR course and learned how to use the Yacht Club’s new defibrillator. The Club recently arranged for the Auxiliary Coast Guard to provide a Safety Check for 21 members’ boats which received Inspection Decals. The greatest coup, however, was having the Captain’s Class taught in the North Passage Clubhouse. Our new Captains, having attended 54 hours of instruction and passed a very difficult exam are: Henri Desplaines, Edward Desplaines, John Melson, Jim Coyne, Mike Sheeto, Laura McLellan, Dave Huber, Frank Cona, Mike Townsend, Eric Townsend, and Leo Steele. In gratitude for use of the Clubhouse the NPYC has donated $250 toward purchase of a large-screen TV.

The next NPYC meeting on April 2 will feature Felix Rodriguez, former CIA, who was involved in the Bay of Pigs and in the interrogation and execution of Che Guevara. Future activities include a Marlins game outing, a second Bahamas trip and lots more parties.

Boating destination gatherings with members in matching NPYC clothing have made quite an impact on North County. Within North Passage, the Yacht Club has brought together families from all Phases and instilled a vibrant sense of “Neighborhood”.

Hey, thanks to everyone who is sending or dropping off your dues.. We have until March 31st to keep the dues the same. Thanks...The Cmdrs are going to the West Palm Beach Fishing Club meeting tomorrow nite.. They have some great speakers on fishing the Bahamas, plus some resort info that we will relay to you at our Bahamas meeting on March 5th.

We are getting a lot of hits on YOU TUBE Castro/Brian Latell in case you missed the last meeting... I will have the Coast Guard here again after our next meeting so you can still sign up and get your 2013 sticker.. If you are working that day just leave keys and registration out so he can check lights... But you have to sign up. Congrats to the 10 New Captains we now have in our community... The NPYC Board and members want to thank the groups that let us use the Clubhouse for the 9 days and the NPYC will donate 250.00 toward the purchase of a Large Flat Screen for the Association. A special thanks to Yachan and her groups.

Spoke with Webmaster Tony and Web Administrator Vince and we should be up and running soon with our NEW and Improved WEBSITE.....

We need volunteers to be on a setup committee and a break down committee so Yachan can oversee what needs to be done.. Thanks for being such a great and active club.   I will let u know the dates for our TIKI 52 fling and the dates for the Bahamas trips..   CMDR

Hey Gang. For all of the NPYC members that missed the meeting here is the YouTube of Brian's presentation. He was fabulous and thank you for all the nice emails I received from the membership. You're the best. Your support and participation at the meeting will make it easier to attract major speakers. Brian was completely unprepared for the warm welcome he received from such a Classy and Intellent group of people. This is a very unique group of people that make up our club. Thank you! IT ONLY GETS BETTER, so pay your dues. Thanks, CMDRS
